Construction of the Show Layout

TRAVELING LAYOUT

THESE ARE CONSTRUCTION PHOTOS OF THE CLUBS TRAVELING LAYOUT. THE TRACK PLAN IS BASED ON A LAYOUT IN AN OLD ATLAS LAYOUT PLANNING BOOK. THE LAYOUT AS CAN BE SEEN RESTS ON TRIPODS. THE HEIGHT OF THE LAYOUT IS ADJUSTABLE THROUGH ABOUT A 30 INCH RANGE. THE TRIPODS HOLD SQUARE ALUMINUM TUBES. THE LAYOUT RESTS ON THESE TUBES, BUT IS NOT ATTACHED TO THEM. THE LAYOUT IS MADE OF 6 INCH DEEP BOXES HOLDING A 4 INCH THICK LAYER OF EXTRUDED STYEROFOAM. THE TRACK IS GLUED TO THE STYROFOAM WITH WATER BASED CONSTRUCTION ADHESTIVE. ONE SCRATCH BUILT’ BRIDGE IS ON THE LAYOUT, THE TRESTLE CROSSING OVER THE DOUBLE TRACK MAIN LINE. ALL OTHER STRUCTURES ARE KITS WITH MODIFICATIONS.
THE LAYOUT USES THE LENZ DCC DIGITAL COMMAND CONTROL COMPUTER THROTTLE SYSTEM TO CONTROL TRAIN MOVEMENTS.
THIS LAYOUT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO SHOWS IN THE CINCINNATI CONVENTION CENTER, THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAIN SHOW AND THE NATIONAL MODEL RAILROLAD ASSOCIATION [NMRA]
CONVENTION AND TRAIN SHOW IN 2005. IT MAKES ITS ANNUAL APPARANCE AT THE NMRA’S LOCAL CHAPTER FALL SHOW. THE CLUB HOPES TO TAKE IT TO NMRA SHOWS IN OTHER CITIES IN THE FUTURE.
